About Us

The Plastics Engineering Department is an internationally recognized leader in plastics engineering education. Founded in 1954, we offer the only ABET* accredited Plastics Engineering program in the U.S. Over 3,000 graduates are working in the plastics industry in leadership positions worldwide.  Programs of study include:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree
  • BS with Business Administration Minor
  • BS/MS Program
  • Masters Degree Program
  • PhD in Engineering, Plastics Option
  • Doctor of Engineering Degree
  • Certificate of Plastics Engineering Technology

The program combines hands-on laboratory experiences relevant to the industry, with the fundameMicro Injection Molding Labntal theory found in courses of mathematics, science, and engineering to produce a well-rounded curriculum. Constant feedback from industry and alumni enable us to stay on the cutting edge of plastics manufacturing and design technologies. There are also a number of scholarship opportunities available to Plastics Engineering students.

The department has 20,000 square feet of dedicated laboratory space. Industry leaders and other friends of the University have supported the program through the generous donation of equipment, machinery, materials and software. Students are exposed to all of the major plastics manufacturing, design, and testing technologies.

All of the Plastics Engineering Laboratories have been renovated within the past few years. They include:

  • The Nypro Precision Injection Molding Laboratory
  • Mold Flow Computer Aided Design Laboratory
  • Freudenberg-NOK Elatomeric Materials Laboratory
  • Advanced Polymers Physical Properties Laboratory
  • Battenfeld Gloucester Film Extrusion Laboratory
  • Rocheleau Tool Blow Molding Laboratory
  • Cincinnati Milacron Injection Molding Laboratory
  • Putnam Plastics Extrusion Laboratory
  • Plastics Recycling and Compounding Laboratory
  • Rheological Properties Laboratory
